Remember when San Francisco was transformed into Gotham so a young kindergartener suffering from leukemia could fulfill his Batman-loving wish last year? The city was put on hold to make his wildest dreams come true, but first, Batkid’s family had to get there.

The Make-A-Wish foundation is one of the world’s leading charities that grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions, but travel isn’t cheap. Some may want to go to the Bahamas to go parasailing, while others would like to go to a rural town in South Dakota to be a paleontologist.

“With nearly 75 percent of wishes involving travel, our need for airline miles is critical,” said David Williams, president and chief executive officer for Make-A-Wish America. “Donating airline miles provides an alternative way for supporters of Make-A-Wish to help grant wishes without ever opening their wallets.”

The foundation raised over 176 million airline miles last year, equivalent to more than 350 round-trip tickets for wish journeys. With hopes of raising more than last year, individuals flying on participating airlines including Delta, United and US Airways are encouraged to donate unused frequent flier miles. It can be done in just a few easy steps by visiting wish.org/miles to help children travel to the best days of their lives.
